Celta Vigo, founded in 1923, remain one of Spain’s established top-flight clubs, based at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos in Vigo. They sit ninth in LaLiga during the 2026-27 season, with a 29-man squad averaging 26 years of age and valued at around £147m by Transfermarkt.
Their season has carried a familiar mid-table shape: competitive, tight, and not especially free-scoring. At home they have averaged 1.5 goals scored and one conceded per match, while away from Vigo their games have been notably lean, with 0.3 scored and 0.3 conceded on average.
Recent league results point to a side difficult to shift. A 0-0 draw with Real Betis followed a 2-1 win over Alaves, with another 0-0 at Elche before a 5-0 home win against Racing Santander. They have also drawn with Malaga and Getafe, a run that suggests solidity has often come before fluency.
Javi Rodríguez is their leading scorer with three goals, ahead of Ferrán Jutglà and Pablo Durán on two each. Celta have struck first inside 20 minutes in five of 13 league matches, so they are not a side to let opponents settle without a test.
They have also appeared in the Copa del Rey first round and the Europa League league phase. For Celtic supporters, Celta are a credible Spanish opponent: technically respectable, defensively organised, and currently placed in the upper half of LaLiga.
