Celta Vigo are an established Spanish club, founded in 1923 and based at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos. Their current squad is valued at around £147m by Transfermarkt, with 27 players and an average age of 26.
Their 2026-27 season has been a narrow, low-scoring business so far. Celta sit sixteenth in LaLiga and have also competed in the Europa League league phase. Recent league results point to a side keeping games tight rather than taking them away from opponents: draws at Getafe, Real Sociedad and Valencia, defeats to Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, and a 1-0 win over Sevilla.
The attacking numbers are thin. At home they average 0.5 goals scored and two conceded per match; away, both scoring and concession rates sit at 0.3. They have still struck first inside 20 minutes in six of 15 league matches, but the season’s leading scorers, Iago Aspas and Carl Starfelt, have only one goal each.
For Celtic supporters, Celta are a familiar type of continental opponent: technically serious, competitively hardened, but not in convincing domestic form. Their standing is that of a LaLiga side with pedigree and resources, currently working through a modest and carefully balanced campaign.
