Altay Bayındır, born on 14 April 1998 (age 28), is a Turkey international goalkeeper now with Celta Vigo, where he wears the number one shirt. At 6ft 6in (1.98m), he is an imposing presence, which is rarely a disadvantage in his line of work.
His first substantial league run came with Ankaragucu in 2018-19, when he made 17 league appearances. That season gave him the platform for the move that has shaped his career far more than anything else: Fenerbahce.
Bayındır spent five seasons at Fenerbahce and made 116 league appearances, a proper body of work at a club where goalkeepers are not exactly left to develop in peace. It is that spell, rather than the earlier steps or the current stop in Spain, that gives his career its main shape.
He has also represented Turkey this season, making one appearance in European World Cup qualifying. His career so far is a straightforward one: early progress at Ankaragucu, a long and defining spell at Fenerbahce, and a current role at Celta Vigo.
