Morten Hjulmand, born on 25 June 1999 (age 27), is a Danish central defensive midfielder with Atlético Madrid. He wears number 23 and is valued at around £38.5m by Transfermarkt, which tells you the market has noticed him, even if defensive midfielders rarely invite much poetry.
His best league return came at Sporting CP in 2023–24, when he scored three times in 30 appearances. That season was less about numbers than reliability in the middle of the pitch, but the modest goal tally remains his most productive league campaign.
At Atlético Madrid in 2026–27, he has made 11 appearances across all competitions, including one in LaLiga and 10 in the Champions League. He has also been involved with Denmark during the same season, making eight appearances in European World Cup qualifying.
Hjulmand’s career has moved from Denmark’s international set-up through a strong spell at Sporting CP and on to Atlético Madrid. He is an established professional operating in a demanding role, with his value built more on control and discipline than spectacle.
