Joe Thomson, born in Paisley on 14 January 1997 (age 29), came through at Celtic as a trainee before his senior career properly took shape elsewhere. A central midfielder, he left Celtic in July 2018 for Dunfermline Athletic, a sensible enough route for a player needing regular football rather than academy promise.
From there, Thomson’s career moved through Dunfermline, Larne, Glentoran and Coleraine, with a more settled period also coming at Derry City. His best league return came at Larne in 2023-24, when he scored eight goals in 30 appearances – useful output from a player more naturally associated with the middle of the pitch than the front line.
In 2026-27, he made four league appearances for Glentoran before adding two more for Coleraine. Thomson’s career has been that of an established professional who began at Celtic, moved on early, and built his football across Scotland and Ireland.
