As nothing can, or indeed ought to happen in a vacuum, the tale starts in Portugal, on the day of 24th May 2004, marking the birth of Youssef Chermiti. This sprightly lad decided that standing at a towering 6ft 3in (1.92m) and weighing a solid 13st 3lbs (approx. 84kg), he would spend his days as a forward, more specifically, cozying up in the striker's position, ensconced within the ranks of the formidable Rangers. His name emblazoned on the eternally iconic number 9 jersey.
The current appeal of our protagonist is estimated to be around £6.5m, according to sources as reputable as the footballer's own choice of wristwatch, which is to say Transfermarkt.
Our journey with Chermiti really kicked off in the verdant summer of 2016 when he was plucked from obscurity, albeit, Portuguese obscurity, to join Sporting CP in Portugal’s Liga. There he lingered as a trainee, making a comfortable 16 appearances and even thrashed the net thrice in the mind-bendingly compelling season of 2022-2023. The lad clearly showed promise.
With a skip and a hop, Chermiti was snatched up by Everton in August 2023 for a handsome £9m. In his Evertonian summer, the chap made 18 league appearances in his first season. His appearances, however, rather anti-climactically, withered to a mere four in 2024-2025; it seems troubling times were astir.
In September 2025, he found salvation in the rugged blues of the Rangers scene. With a transfer nose-diving to a humbler £6.5m, Chermiti found himself in Scotland's Premiership. In the wind-battered season of 2025-2026, our gritty hero has donned his jersey for six appearances, scoring once. However, don't be too disheartened, even in the League Cup 2025-2026, he's managed to put one start and one substitute appearance under his belt. If that's not enough, the European stage has also tasted his talent with three appearances in the Europa League.
A winding path indeed for our sturdy specimen, Youssef Chermiti. Whether the bright beacon beckoning from the future matches the sparkle in his eyes, or it leads to further turmoil is yet to be seen. For now, his boots remain laced and ready to tread the vibrant green landscape that is Scottish football.
