Xaver Schlager, born on the 28th of September 1997, is a 28-year-old Austrian footballer who is best known for his performances in the position of a central defensive midfielder. He is currently playing his trade at RB Leipzig, wearing the no. 24 jersey. He stands at 5ft 8in (1.74m) tall and weighs 11st 13lb (76kg). Besides club football, Schlager has also turned out for the Austrian national team on several occasions.

Schlager started his football journey in January 2015 with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. He had a slow start, making only two first-team appearances in league matches in the 2015 - 2016 season. The 2016 - 2017 season saw him net one goal in 13 appearances, and the following year he scored another goal in 26 appearances. During the 2018 - 2019 season, he found his form, scoring five times in 26 appearances.
In July 2019, Schlager made his way to the Bundesliga in Germany, transferring from Red Bull Salzburg to Wolfsburg for a sum of approximately £14m. Over the next few seasons, he turned in a respectable number of appearances for Wolfsburg, scoring a total of three times across the span of three seasons, from 2019 to 2022.
Schlager transferred to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga in Germany in July 2022 for around £11m. He had a solid debut season with the club, netting one goal in 22 appearances. While the following season saw him failing to find the back of the net, he made up for it in terms of appearances, featuring 29 times in the league. His performance so far in the current season has been noteworthy, as he has scored twice in 15 appearances.
