Wout Weghorst, born on 7 August 1992 (age 33), is a Netherlands striker now with FC Twente, wearing the number 9 shirt. At 6ft 6in (1.97m), he has never exactly had to announce himself on a football pitch, though his career has been built on more than being a large centre-forward.
His route through Dutch football took him from FC Emmen to Heracles Almelo and then AZ, where his scoring record pushed him towards a bigger stage. Wolfsburg was the spell that gave his career real weight: in 2020-2021 he scored 20 league goals in 34 appearances, his most productive league season.
Burnley brought him to England, but much of the next phase of his career was shaped by loans. Spells at Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim kept him operating at a high level and showed the same broad outline of his game: awkward to defend against, useful with his back to goal, and more mobile than his frame might suggest.
He remains a regular first-team presence for FC Twente in 2025-2026. He has made 27 Eredivisie appearances and scored eight league goals, which is a fair return rather than a spectacular one, and enough to keep him relevant in the side rather than merely around the squad.
Weghorst has also stayed involved with the Netherlands this season, with one World Cup appearance and six in European World Cup qualifying. His market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt. His career has taken him through the Netherlands, Germany, England and Turkey, and at Twente he is still doing the basic centre-forward job often enough to matter.
