Wataru Endo, born on 9 February 1993 (age 33), is a Japan international best known now as a central defensive midfielder with Liverpool. His current market value is around £10m, according to Transfermarkt.
Endo’s early senior years at Shonan Bellmare showed the oddity in his game: a defensive player with a proper goal return. His most productive league season came in 2012, when he scored seven times in 32 appearances. That is not a normal line for a player working from the back end of a team.
At Liverpool in 2025-26, he has remained part of the first-team picture rather than fading into the background. He has made 12 appearances across all competitions, including eight in the Premier League, with further outings in the League Cup, FA Community Shield and Champions League.
He has also stayed involved with Japan this season, making 11 appearances in Asian World Cup qualifying and scoring once. Endo’s career has been built on defensive reliability, but his scoring record – especially from his earlier years – has always given it a slightly unusual shape.
