Vasilis Barkas, born on 30 May 1994 (age 32) in Zetten, Netherlands, is a Greek goalkeeper now with FC Utrecht. An imposing 6ft 5in (1.96m), he came through senior football in Greece, including a 2015–16 season at Atromitos in which he made 12 league appearances, before moving on to AEK Athens.
Celtic paid around £5m to sign him from AEK Athens in July 2020. For a goalkeeper, and for Celtic, that was a serious fee. His spell in Glasgow never became the main body of his career, and in July 2023 he left for FC Utrecht.
FC Utrecht is where the record fills out. Wearing number 1, Barkas has made 131 league appearances across five seasons for the club. In 2026–27, he has made six Eredivisie appearances, with two more in European play-offs and one in the KNVB Beker, taking him to nine appearances in all competitions for the season.
