Born 5 August 1988, Northern Irish goalkeeper Trevor Carson is currently applying his trade with Dundee, wearing the number 31 jersey. Standing at around 6ft (1.85m) and tipping the scales at something around the 13st 5lb (85 kg) mark, Carson's career trajectory has seen him feature prominently in several clubs, mainly in the English Football League system before making his way north to Scotland.
The early stages of his career saw him at Chesterfield in England, where he debuted in the 2008-2009 season with 18 first team appearances. His performance piqued the interest of Lincoln City, leading to a transition to the club in the 2010-2011 season, where he made 16 appearances. Carson also briefly dipped his toes into the waters at Brentford in the same season, featuring once on their team sheet.
The following season, 2011-2012, took him to Bury. Carson found his stability here, making 17 first-team appearances in his inaugural season and upping the ante in 2012-2013 season with 39 appearance. However, a sharp decline in playtime the next season saw only five appearances under his belt. His time at Bury ended with a move to Portsmouth in the tail end of 2013-2014 season, where Carson filled the number one spot with an impressive 36 appearances.
Carrying this momentum forward, Carson moved to Cheltenham Town in the 2014-2015 season, allowing him a career-high of 46 first team appearances. He subsequently moved to Hartlepool United, securing 34 appearances in the 2015-2016 season, but saw a downturn to 23 appearances in his second season at the club.
In the 2017-2018 season, Carson travelled to Scotland, joining Motherwell for three seasons. He racked up 33 first-team appearances in his first season, before experiencing a similar decreasing trend with 12 appearances in his last two seasons there.
The 2021 - 2022 season saw him move to Dundee United, albeit briefly for four first-team appearances before making a switch to St Mirren for the 2022-2023 season where he had 37 appearances. As of the current season in 2024, Carson secures the goal for Dundee making a steady 25 appearances in his first season and at present has made two first team appearances so far. His performance in Dundee also led to him participating and earning three starts in the League Cup 2024 - 2025.
Despite not having had the honour to don the Celtic green and white, Carson's contributions to his various clubs demonstrate a consistent, reliable, and dedicated goalkeeper.
