Watt initiated his professional football career in July 2010 with Scottish Championship side Airdrieonians. During his debut season 2010 - 2011, Watt featured in 15 league matches and managed to score three goals.
In January 2011, Watt transferred from Airdrieonians to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Over three seasons - 2011 to 2014 - he played in various league matches, recording a total of seven goals. Watt's tenure at Celtic was a fruitful time during which he demonstrated potential and claimed a regular first-team place.
His talent was recognised beyond Scotland as well. In August 2013, Watt was loaned to Lierse SK in the Derde Klasse in Belgium, where he bagged eight goals in 17 league appearances.
Following his loan spell, Watt permanently moved from Celtic to Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League for a reported fee of around £1.2m in July 2014. However, Watt's stint with Liege was short-lived. He transferred to England's Championship side, Charlton Athletic, in January 2015 for an undisclosed fee.
Throughout his time at Charlton Athletic, he was intermittently loaned out - to Cardiff City in 2015, Blackburn Rovers in 2016, and Hearts in 2016. Each of these loan spells offered varied levels of success for Watt.
In August 2017, Watt once again delved back into Belgian football, signing with Oud-Heverlee Leuven. His time there was brief, and the details of his transfer appear to be missing. Come July 2018, Watt was back on Scottish soil, joining St Johnstone in the Championship.
After a single season with St Johnstone, Watt diversified his football experience by moving to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria's First League in July 2019. By February 2020, however, Watt returned to Scotland to wear the Motherwell jersey. His time at Motherwell was particularly productive in the 2021 - 2022 season, where he boasted nine goals from 19 first team appearances.
In January 2022, Watt transferred to Dundee United, also in the Scottish Premiership, for around £100k. After a short loan stint at St Mirren, and then a loan return to Motherwell, Watt has settled into Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship, where he remains presently. His current 2025 - 2026 season at Partick Thistle has seen him make 22 first team appearances, securing five league goals. In the same season, he has also participated in the League Cup and Scottish Cup, scoring three goals across his performances.
From his early days at Celtic to his current role at Partick Thistle, Tony Watt has proven himself a resilient and dynamic player in British football
