His football career set off in July 2010 with Airdrieonians in the Scottish Championship, where he spent six months and scored three goals from his 15 appearances. In January 2011, Watt moved to Scottish Premiership side Celtic for a reported fee of £100k. During his tenure at Celtic from 2011-2013, back when referring to the 'Old Firm' was applicable, he made 25 first team appearances and scored seven goals in league matches. In his final season, 2013 - 2014, he made two more first team appearances.
In a bit of a twist in his career, Watt moved to Lierse SK in Belgium on loan in August 2013. He enjoyed a successful stint, scoring eight goals from 17 matches. Following St Johnstone, Watt transferred to CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria's First League in July 2019 where he scored three goals in 15 appearances.
In February 2020, Watt came back to Scottish football, joining Motherwell in the Premiership. Here, he has been fairly successful, scoring 13 goals from 77 appearances to date. There was a brief diversion when Watt transferred to Dundee United in January 2022 for a fee of around £100k and later had a loan spell at St Mirren. At Dundee United, Watt contributed an impressive 18 goals in 70 games. However, he ended up back at Motherwell in August 2024.
