Wellenreuther's career in football started in July 2013 when he joined Schalke 04 in the 2. Bundesliga in Germany. His debut season saw him making eight first team appearances in league matches. July 2015 saw him moving to Mallorca in the LaLiga in Spain on a loan, where he made a significant 33 first team appearances in his first season.
Returning from his loan to Schalke 04 in 2016, he once again exhibited his prowess with eight first team appearances in his debut season.
