Stefan Hierländer, born on the 3rd of February 1991, is a seasoned central midfielder hailing from Austria. Coming in at a height of 1.8m (5ft 10in) and tipping the scales at 73kg (11st 6lb), he is known for his midfield presence, especially for his current team, Sturm Graz. Here, he dons the number 25 jersey, commanding the field with a finesse born out of years of experience. As noted by Transfermarkt, his current market value is approximately £170k.
In January 2009, young Hierländer first tested the waters of professional football with SK Austria Karnten in Austria's regional league. His debut season 2008 - 2009 saw him make eight first team appearances, a figure he would quickly eclipse the following season by logging 30 appearances and netting four goals.
In July 2010, he transferred to Red Bull Salzburg where he had a relatively consistent spell making over 20 first team appearances per season in his first three seasons and netting a goal in each of the first three seasons. Fast forward to 2014, and Hierländer crossed borders to join RB Leipzig in Germany. Here, he made 22 first team appearances in his first season, 2014 - 2015, but was only able to secure one appearance in the subsequent season.
July 2016 marked a return home for Hierländer as he transferred to Sturm Graz. Over the next nine seasons, Hierländer averaged over 25 first team appearances per season, scoring a fair share of goals along the way, including 5 in the 2016-17 season alone. The 2025 - 2026 season saw him make two first team appearances so far. On the European front, Hierländer represented Sturm Graz in the Europa League 2023 - 2024 season and the Conference League in the same year.
Although never having the chance to don the green and white hoops of Celtic, Stefan Hierländer's career has clearly been one of tenacity, hard graft, and an unwavering passion for the beautiful game - values any Celtic supporter can appreciate.
