Shamal George, born on 6 January 1998 in England, is no stranger to the world of Scottish football. Now 27 years of age, the goalkeeper holds the prestigious number 1 jersey for St Mirren. Standing at an imposing 6ft 3in tall (1.91m) and weighing in at 12st 6lb (79kg), George certainly has the physical attributes required to dominate in his position.
According to data from Transfermarkt, his current market value sits comfortably around £215k. He's currently bound to St Mirren through a contract set to expire on 30 June, 2026, giving him another 12 months on the pitch with the Premiership side.
George's career was initially rooted in the Premier League, with a transfer from Liverpool to Carlisle United taking place in August 2017. Although it was a loan deal, it marked his first experience of first-team football, making four appearances in this debut season of 2017-2018.
Another loan spell saw George at Tranmere Rovers in July 2018, before a permanent transfer from Liverpool to Colchester United materialised in August 2020. However, it was not until July 2022 that George found himself up north, transferred from Colchester United to Livingston - a Scottish Premiership side, for an undisclosed fee.
In his debut season at Livingston in 2022 - 2023, George played 32 league matches, a feat he repeated in his second season. However, by the 2024 - 2025 season, his appearances were reduced to just three. A move was on the horizon, and in August 2024, he transferred from Livingston to Wycombe Wanderers in England's League One for an undisclosed fee.
Once again, though, the call of Scotland proved too strong to ignore. In July 2025, George transferred from Wycombe Wanderers back to the Scottish Premiership, this time to St Mirren. Currently in the 2025 - 2026 season, he has already made one appearance. Besides, he has even started in the League Cup 2025 - 2026 for St Mirren.
While he has yet to don the hooped jersey of Celtic, George's journey through the Scottish football landscape provides him with ample experience and perspective. For now, St Mirren can continue to trust in him as their first-choice keeper for the foreseeable future.
