Born on 20 January 1995, Sam Nicholson, a native of Scotland, currently plays as a right winger for Motherwell. He stands at 5 ft 8 in (1.75 m) tall and weighs 11 st 2 lb (71 kg). He can be easily recognised on the field as he is seen wearing the number 19 jersey in every game.
Nicholson's professional journey began impressively in the 2013-14 season at Hearts in Scotland, where he made 25 first team appearances and netted two goals for the club. That season was followed by three more successful ones at Hearts, with Nicholson making a total of 84 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
In the 2017 season, Nicholson made a leap across the Atlantic to join Minnesota United in the United States, appearing 12 times and scoring once. Despite a relatively short stint at Minnesota United, where he made only 8 appearances and scored one goal in the following season, he made a significant impact on the field.
Thereafter, Nicholson moved to Colorado Rapids in 2018, further expanding his football résumé. Over five seasons at the American club, he racked up 85 appearances and scored 6 goals, proving to be a consistent figure for the Rapids.
After his stint in the United States, Nicholson returned to his homeland of Scotland, signing with Motherwell ahead of the 2023-24 season. His first season with the club saw him make 16 appearances and score two important goals. Unfortunately, he has yet to make a first-team appearance in the 2024-25 season for Motherwell.
At present, Nicholson's market value is around £425k, according to Transfermarkt. Moreover, his contract with Motherwell is anticipated to run until 31 May 2026.
