Sam McClelland, was delivered into this world on 4 January 2002, making him 23 years old. A native of Northern Ireland, he constructed a career as a defensive rock, lacing his boots primarily as a central defender for St Johnstone. In the summer swelter of July 2018, McClelland relocated to the English Premier League, accepting a trainee role with Chelsea. Four years later, he would depart Chelsea, transplanted on loan to League Two side, Barrow. In the season of 2022 - 2023, McClelland etched his name onto the teamsheet 18 times and found the net once in league matches for Barrow
Abandoning the dizzying heights of English football, he sought greener pastures in Scotland with Premiership side, St Johnstone in August 2023. In his introductory season (2023 - 2024) he graced the pitch seven times in league encounters. In the current season (2024 - 2025) he’s made one first-team appearance.
An unexpected shift took place in February 2024 as McClelland was transferred to Dundee United, remaining in Scotland’s Premiership, albeit on a temporary loan agreement. He made a half dozen appearances for Dundee in the 2023 - 2024 campaign.
In June 2024, following the conclusion of his loan spell, McClelland returned to St Johnstone. He added another seven league appearances to his resume in the 2023 - 2024 season, whereas the current running season has seen him record a solitary appearance
Adding another dimension to his game, McClelland participated in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 for St Johnstone, making four starts.
