Meet Ryan Mullen, a lad born on the 18th May 2001 and now clocking in at the ripe old age of 24. Originating from Scotland, he's currently the man in the goal for St Mirren, shouldering the weight of the number 31 jersey. Standing tall at 6ft 2in (1.88m for those who fancy it metric) and weighing in at 12st 8lb (or 80kg for those of the metric persuasion), he's a fair presence in the box.
In the long ballet of football transfers, Mullen pirouetted his way from Celtic to Cove Rangers in September 2020 on a loan. It's no Premiership, but even League One holds its own charms, or so I hear. But, like an overambitious stag at a wedding, he soon returned to the safe harbour of his familiar Celtic green in October the same year.
However, like a moth to distinctly tiered flame, Mullen was back out on loan in March 2021, this time to Queen's Park in the Championship. Yet again, our lad made his return to Celtic in June 2021, like a young cuckoo reluctantly leaving the nest.
September 2022 saw another twist in the tale, with a transfer from Celtic to Clyde in the League Two. Not quite the glamour of the Premiership, but hey, a gig's a gig. In his debut season at Clyde, Mullen, ever the hard worker, made a grand total of three first team appearances in league matches. Hats off.
Further demonstrating his Scottish Championship tour, Mullen transferred to Greenock Morton in July 2023, where he made 23 first team appearances in the 2023-24 season and 24 in the next. Some might call it remarkable consistency, others might point to the cruel hands of fate. Who's to say?
Eventually, our intrepid goalkeeper found his way back to the Premiership, moving to St Mirren in July 2025, where he has so far made absolutely no appearances in the current season. Cue the violins.
In spite of this, he did somehow manage to participate in the League Cup 2025 - 2026 for St Mirren with one start. As they say, small victories, Ryan. Small victories.
