Ryan Mullen, the product of a Scottish womb, arrived in this cruel world on 18 May 2001, which makes the lad a tender age of 24. Mullen is a sturdy lad, standing about 6ft 2in tall which is around 1.88m for those of you with a continental mindset, and tipping the scales at 12st 8lb or 80kg if you insist. This braw lad finds himself minding the net for St Mirren, donning the rather unassuming number 31 jersey.
Mullen, in all his youthful indiscretion, went gallivanting across the Scottish football scene rather haphazardly. In September 2020, he thought it was a grand idea to take a brief holiday from Celtic to Cove Rangers on a loan, as if the League One was a seaside resort. The Premiership's gloomy weather must have depressed him a touch, I reckon.
Unsurprisingly, Mullen was dragged back to Celtic in October 2020 upon completion of his loan, just like a wayward lad who stayed out past his curfew. But our restless soul couldn't help himself and off he was again in March 2021, this time finding himself at Queen's Park on another loan. Not content staying with one club, he was forcibly returned to Celtic in June 2021, bidding adieu to the Championship.
But, oh dear, Mullen once again betrayed his forever-wandering spirit in September 2022, transferring to Clyde in the League Two. His debut season of 2022 - 2023 must have been a monumental one, as he was allowed to grace the pitch a staggering three whole times. However, his stay at Clyde was as consistent as a weather report and off he was again in July 2023... this time to Greenock Morton in the Championship.
Our Mullen seems to have finally found some rhythm with his new club, making 23 first team appearances in league matches in the 2023 - 2024 season and an impressive 24 appearances the following season. But just we were getting comfortable, Mr.Inconsistency was on the move again, moving on to St Mirren in the Premiership in July 2025.
The current season of 2025 - 2026 sees Mullen at St Mirren, where he's yet to make a league appearance. In this vastness of football, he managed to slip into a League Cup match with one start. Isn't it quite an illustrious career our lad Mullen's had?
