Ross Doohan, a Scottish goalkeeper currently sporting the number 31 jersey for Aberdeen, was born on 29 March 1998. Standing at a formidable 6ft 1in (1.86m) and weighing in at a solid 11st 11lb (75kg), he brings a good physical presence to the areas he patrols.
The goalkeeper has a current valuation of around £212k, according to Transfermarkt. His contract with Aberdeen is due to expire on 31 May 2025, leaving him with only one month left to either negotiate a new deal or face the prospect of entering the free agency market.
Doohan has had quite the journeyman career so far, beginning with a spell at Celtic. In August 2017, he left Celtic to join Greenock Morton on loan and enjoyed further loan spells at Ayr United and Ross County in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 seasons respectively. In his time at Ross County, he made a total of five first-team league appearances during his debut season.
In April 2021, he was once again on the move, this time heading to Dundee United on loan from Celtic. Here, he managed to get some more game time, making a total of two first-team appearances in league matches under his belt during the 2020 - 2021 season.
Upon completion of his loan at Dundee, Doohan returned to Celtic in June 2021. The rest of Doohan's career has been characterised by a series of transfers, with a short loan spell at Tranmere Rovers followed by a transfer to the same club in July 2022. His time at Tranmere Rovers saw him make a total of 25 first-team appearances in two distinct spells during the 2022 - 2023 season.
His wanderlust continued in January 2023 with a move to Forest Green Rovers from Tranmere for an undisclosed fee, where he made ten first-team appearances in league matches during the 2022 - 2023 season. Impressing with his performances, Doohan secured a move to his current club, Aberdeen, from Forest Green Rovers in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
At Aberdeen, Doohan's first season yielded a single first-team league appearance. Yet, during the current 2024 - 2025 season, he has become a more regular feature, making as many as 15 first-team appearances in league matches. Further to these, he has also had the chance to participate in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 with one start and the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 with two starts.
As a former Celtic player, it's relevant to note his time at the club. Doohan never quite broke into the first team at Celtic, but he served his apprenticeship there and learned the craft from the experienced goalkeeper coaches at the club. He went on multiple loans to gain the much-needed first team experience. Even though he has moved on from Celtic, his foundations belong to the Parkhead club.
