Ross Docherty, a Scottish-born bletherer, in the prime of his football career at 32 years of age, has been earning his crust at Dundee United. His primary specialty lies in the midfield, specifically as a central defensive midfielder. Standing at 5ft 9in (1.76m, if metric measurements are more your pace) and tipping the scales at 11st 2lb (or 71kg to those accustom to such units), Docherty is seen strutting about in his number 23 jersey.
The market has its eyes set on Docherty, valuing him at a respectable £171k, according to the football statisticians over at Transfermarkt. There's a but though, Dockerty's contract with Dundee United is set to run its course come 31 May 2025, leaving a cloud of doubt hanging over his future with the club.
Docherty's career began rather ambiguously, with a move to Livingston in July of 2010. A minor role was all he garnered in his inaugural season, gracing the field just once in league play. Over the course of his three season tenureship, Docherty's presence gradually increased as he began to find his footing, ultimately peaking with ten appearances in the 2012 - 2013 season. His fourth and final season at Livingston, however, proved to be a disappointment, with only eight first-team league appearances.
A brief spell followed with Airdrieonians, beginning in November 2014, where Docherty garnered a far more central role, making 22 appearances in the league. His performances attracted the gaze of Ayr United, to which he transferred in July 2015. Wearing Ayr United's jersey for four seasons, Docherty continued to be a stalwart, with his appearance tally often crossing the 20-odd mark, and even netting a couple of goals in the 2016 - 2017 season.
In July 2020, Docherty jumped ship again, this time to Partick Thistle. He only spent a couple of seasons at Thistle, nonetheless, he made quite an impact in his second season, playing 26 matches and scoring one goal.
Docherty's career reached the Premiership when Dundee United secured his services in July 2023. In the grandest stage of Scottish football, Docherty has duly delivered, including a commendable 20 appearances and three goals in the 2023 - 2024 season, followed by a pleasing 19 appearances in the current 2024 - 2025 season. He's also had a taste of the League Cup this year, getting one start to his name and even making an appearance off the bench.
