Remo Freuler, born on 15 April 1992 (age 34), is a Swiss defensive midfielder with Bologna. He is not a player built around noise or novelty, which may explain why he has stayed useful for so long. His best scoring league season came at Luzern in 2014-15, when he scored seven goals in 33 appearances.
At Bologna, Freuler remains a regular first-team presence in 2025-26. Wearing No 8, he has made 40 appearances in all competitions, including 29 in Serie A, with one goal. He has also played 10 times in the Europa League and once in the Coppa Italia, which tells its own plain story about his place in the side.
He has continued to be involved with Switzerland as well, making one World Cup appearance and four in European World Cup qualifying this season. His current market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Freuler’s career has been shaped by reliability rather than spectacle: productive enough in Switzerland, settled enough in Italy, and still trusted at club and international level in his mid-thirties.
