Aye, let's talk about Rabbi Matondo, born on the 9th of September, 2000 (an age of 24 and counting), in the heart of England. He's a forward who prides himself primarily on being a left winger for our neighbours, the Rangers. Measured at about 5ft 8in (or 1.75m for those of a metric persuasion), and a nimble 10st 5lb (or 66kg if you uphold the metric regime).
Matondo, for reasons best known to himself, decided to join Manchester City as a trainee in July of 2016.
In January of 2019, Matondo, perhaps tired of the Premier League, made the leap to Schalke 04 in the 2. Bundesliga of Germany, for the modest sum of £8.1m. His debut season (2018-2019) in Germany saw him strut his stuff in seven first-team league matches. The following season (2019-2020), he broke his previous record, racking up an impressive—by his standards—20 league appearances and even knocked a couple of balls into the back of the net. During the 2020-2021 season, however, his shine seems to have dimmed, manifesting itself in a mere three first-team league appearances.
In January 2021, Matondo seemingly had enough of his German sojourn; he popped over to Stoke City in the Championship on a loan deal. He marked his brief spell in the Championship by appearing in 10 league matches and even treated fans to a scoring a goal.
The wandering Rabbi decided Belgium would be his next destination, spending the 2021-2022 season with Cercle Brugge on loan. He put in a fair shift with 26 league appearances and thumped home nine goals in the process.
Then, in July 2022, Matondo trotted over to our lot at the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, from his German handlers Schalke 04, for the somewhat frugal sum of £2.7m. Across numerous seasons with the Rangers, he's made a habit of featuring in around 19 first-team league matches, and punted home more than a handful of goals.
And there you have it, Matondo is now a proud wearer of the number 17 for the Rangers. I know, exciting isn't it? Trembling with anticipation for where he'll wander off to next.
