Nir Bitton was born on 30 October 1991 in Israel, standing tall at 6ft 5in (1.96m) and weighing in at 12st 8lb (80kg). Currently, he is donning the number 55 jersey as a central defender for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Bitton began his footballing journey as a trainee at FC Ashdod in Israel's Premier League in July 1997. During his debut season in 2009-2010, he demonstrated his talent with 21 first team appearances and one goal. His impact continued to grow in the subsequent seasons, culminating in a total of 122 appearances and 14 goals during his four seasons at Ashdod.
In August 2013, Bitton made a significant move to Celtic in Scotland's Premiership with a transfer fee of approximately £700k. His first Scottish season saw him make 15 first-team appearances. It was in the next season, however, that Bitton began to write his Celtic script in earnest.
During the 2014-2015 season, he made 31 first-team appearances and scored two goals. This marked the start of a fruitful period at Celtic, with Bitton stamping his authority with commanding performances from the back. Throughout his stay at Celtic, Bitton played an instrumental role in the heart of the defence, accumulating 172 appearances and netting 10 goals across nine seasons. The 2021-2022 season proved particularly memorable as he racked up 24 appearances and scored one goal.
July 2022 marked the end of Bitton's journey with Celtic as he sailed back to his homeland, transferring to Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel's Premier League. Bitton continues to make his mark in the current 2024-2025 season with one first team appearance. In addition, his experience on the international stage has been showcased through his participation in the Europa League and Conference League for Maccabi.
