Devlin's career on the field kicked off in July 2010 when he joined Dumbarton in the Scottish League Two. During his debut season (2010-2011), Devlin made 23 first team appearances in league matches, a figure he surpassed with 16 more appearances in the 2012-2013 season.
In May of 2011, Devlin transferred from Dumbarton to Motherwell, a Premiership club, for an undisclosed fee. In July of 2013, Devlin transferred from Motherwell to Stenhousemuir permanently and remained consistent in his performance with six, eight, and 30 first team appearances across three seasons.
Heading to Ayr United in the Championship in July 2014, Devlin began to show his offensive capabilities with two goals across 36 appearances in the 2014-2015 season, and one across 34 appearances the season following. This pattern of performance persisted into his 2016-2017 season, where he made 34 first team appearances.
Devlin made the move to England in July of 2017, when he transferred from Ayr United to Walsall in English League Two. Here, he made 18 first team appearances in the 2017-2018 season.
Returning to Scotland in July 2019, Devlin transferred to Livingston in the Premiership, where he scored two goals each in seasons 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023 and made an impressive number of appearances, peaking at 38 in the 2022-2023 season.
With a transfer to Aberdeen in July 2023, Devlin has since made 37 and 31 first team appearances in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons respectively. He has also netted four goals in the latter season, and made two appearances in the current 2025-2026 season.
He has additionally represented Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup during the 2024-2025 season. On an international level, he has featured for Scotland in the Nations League for the same time frame. His club experience extends to the European stage, with appearances in the 2023-2024 Conference League for Aberdeen.
