May I present to you, Nick Suman, born 28 February 2000, which by my calculations would make him a 26-year-old shot-stopper hailing from the land down under, Australia. Currently in the employment of Aberdeen, he stands proud at a statuesque 6ft 5in (1.97m) and tips the scales at, I'd say a reasonable, 13st 9lb (87kg). Now you’d think with that century-old unlucky number 13 jersey he’s been lumbered with, he’d spend more time picking the ball from the back of the net rather than stopping it. How truly arcane.
In the sunny, yet never dull, early days of July 2015, young Suman found himself under the wings of the Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League, down in sunny Australia. Here, he proudly added the lofty title of ‘trainee’ to his burgeoning CV. In an astounding debut season (2018 - 2019 if anyone’s asking), our dear lad Suman managed to show up no less than four times for their first team in league matches. The following season saw his appearances drop to a measly one. How the mighty fall.
In the banal warmth of August 2020, our Aussie keeper found himself on the road again, this time transferring from the Wanderers to his fellow league compatriots, Macarthur FC. At this new home, Suman’s tenure was marked by an intriguing three first team appearances in both the 2021 - 2022 and 2022 - 2023 seasons.
July 2023 brought with it a chill, a change in scenery and a major culture shock. No more sand and surf, our Suman swapped the sunny A-League for the grey skies of the Scottish League One, joining the storied Cove Rangers. Nonetheless, he couldn't have possibly hoped to catch a glimpse of the hooped jerseys of Celtic over here.
By the not-so-sunny but stereotypically rainy July of 2025, our Aussie no-longer-a-wonder-kid managed another hop, skipping Cove Rangers’ ship to join the Scottish Premiership’s very own Aberdeen. Now saddled in such a prestigious club, let's just say his career hasn’t quite taken flight. In the current 2025 - 2026 season, the lad’s played as much as a couch potato would on a Sunday league with zero appearances. Spellbinding.
