Introducing to you, Nick Suman, birth date - 28th of February, 2000. The lad hails from the land down under and needless to mention, he is a sworn guardian of the goal post. Currently marshalling the Aberdeen defence in the number 13 jersey, Suman is far from your average 'wee guy', standing tall (gargantuan, to be exact) at 6ft 5in (or 1.97m for those with metric persuasion) and tipping the scales at 13st 9lb (approx 87kg for the unconvinced).
Now, let's journey back to July 2015, when a younger, probably less daunting, Suman was not yet privy to the Scottish winds. According to well-established football folklore, he began his footballing sojourn with Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League as a trainee. As green as he was, he managed to carve out a debut in the 2018 - 2019 season, featuring a grand total of four times for the senior squad in league matches. Dramatically, his appearances plummeted to a single eventful affair in the following season.
In August 2020, our young lad, perhaps enticed by a new adventure or dissatisfaction with the lack of action in his original quarters, transferred to Macarthur FC, another Australian outfit. His time there, however, wasn't peppered with unique exploits, making just six appearances over two seasons in a first team outfit.
Intriguingly, come July 2023, Suman seemed to have grown weary of the scorching Australian sun and decided to switch continents. From the exotic, sun-drenched A-league, he traded his goalie gloves to land up at Cove Rangers in Scotland's League One, perhaps becoming an aficionado of Irn Bru and square sausages, assuming he managed to get his hands on some, in this obscure corner of Scotland.
Fast forward to July 2025, the big man hopped from Cove Rangers to the more illustrious Aberdeen, racing to the top echelon of Scottish football - The Premiership. However, the burden of the number 13 jersey seems to have proven to be rather heavy for Suman as he is yet to grace the pitch for the Dons in a first team league match in the current season.
So here you have it, folks - the riveting tale of our Aussie export Nick Suman. Not the most glittering of resumes, but a determined lad nonetheless, and one can only hope that his luck turns around in the Scottish Premiership. After all, the underdog narrative is what makes football the beautiful game it is.
