Nectarios Triantis, a strapping defender, first graced the world stage on 11 May 2003. Born Down Under, his career has seen him play in Australia, England, and now, Scotland. In his primary role as a central defender for Hibernian, the 6ft 3in (1.91m) 12st 3lb (78kg) powerhouse dons the number 26 jersey with pride.
Financially speaking, our Australian import is worth around £429, according to Transfermarkt, with his Hibernian contract set to expire in the not-too-distant future of 31 May 2025.
In July 2020, Triantis began his professional journey with the Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia's A-League. Despite only making a single first-team league appearance during his debut 2021-2022 season, he was soon on the move.
By July 2022, Triantis had transferred to Central Coast Mariners, also in the A-League. With a respectable 22 first-team league appearances under his belt during the 2022-2023 season, it wasn't long before interest from overseas greeted him.
Hearing the call of England's Championship, Triantis transferred from Central Coast Mariners to Sunderland in July 2023, for a fee of around £257k. While his stint at Sunderland was brief, it was just another step on his journey to Scotland. With only two first-team league appearances during the 2023-2024 season, and one in the ongoing 2024-2025 season, it was time for a change.
In February 2024, Triantis found himself gracing the hallowed grounds of Hibernian, here in Scotland. Initially just a loanee, he donned the Hibs' green and white making 12 first-team appearances during his first season (2023-2024), and a commendable 22 during the current season, even netting three goals. His Scottish adventure was punctuated by a brief return to Sunderland in June 2024, but by August, he was back on Scottish soil and back in a Hibernian shirt.
Apart from being a solid presence in the league, he has also had the honour of participating in the iconic Scottish Cup for the 2024-2025 season with Hibernian, making one start. Triantis' journey, from Australia to Scotland, has been an intriguing one. And at the tender age of 21, it's far from over.
