Mohamed Elyounoussi was born in Al Hoceima, Morocco, on 4 August 1994 (age 31), but has built his international career with Norway. A left winger by trade, he came through his early senior years in Norwegian football, where his 2014 season at Molde remains the standout marker of his development: 13 league goals in 30 appearances.
That form helped push him on to a broader European career, eventually taking him to Southampton. Celtic then brought him in from Southampton in August 2019, adding a technically sound wide player who could play off either flank and carry a goal threat without needing the game built entirely around him.
His time at Celtic was useful rather than transformative. He had spells where his quality was obvious, particularly when he found rhythm in the final third, but it was never quite the long-term arrangement it might have been. That is often the way with players arriving from the English market: plenty of ability, a little less certainty about what comes next.
Elyounoussi is now with FC Copenhagen, wearing number 27. In 2026-27, he has made 11 appearances across all competitions and scored five goals, including returns in the league, the Superliga, Champions League and Conference League qualifying. His current market value is around £4m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career has taken him from Norwegian football to Southampton, Celtic and Copenhagen, with Norway the constant at international level. The most productive early spell came at Molde, and Celtic had him during a solid, if not defining, part of his wider European route.
