Michael Steinwender

Michael Steinwender of Heart of Midlothian was born in Eisenstadt, Austria on 4 May 2000 (age 24).

Michael Steinwender, born on the 4th of May 2000 and currently aged 24, hails from Austria and wears the number 15 shirt while plying his trade as a central defender for Hearts. His impressive physique, standing 6ft 2in tall (1.9m) and tipping the scales at 12st 1lb (77kg), provides a robust defensive line.

As provided by Transfermarkt, Steinwender's market value clocks in the region of Β£1m. Moreover, the Austrian defender has a contract with Hearts extending to the 30th of June 2028, giving him another 3 years and 4 months with the Scottish side.

His professional journey began as a trainee in July 2017 at SV Mattersburg in the Regional in Austria. He got a taste of first-team football in the 2019 - 2020 season, where he made four appearances in league matches. The following season in August 2020, Steinwender embarked on a new chapter with St. Polten in the 2. Liga in Austria by transferring from SV Mattersburg.

The 2020 - 2021 season at St. Polten saw Steinwender appear in 26 league matches, but the following season, he was restricted to only five appearances. In August 2021, he moved from St. Polten to TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga for an undisclosed fee. Over the next three seasons, he racked up consistent numbers, appearing in 19, 22, and 21 league matches respectively.

A new opportunity presented itself in July 2024 as Steinwender sealed a transfer from TSV Hartberg to IFK Varnamo in the Allsvenskan in Sweden. Here, he notched up 17 first-team appearances, even managing to bag a goal. Yet, his stint at IFK Varnamo was short-lived, as he secured a transfer to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership in January 2025 for an undisclosed fee.

Steinwender's current season 2024 - 2025 at Hearts has witnessed the defender make seven first-team appearances, chipping in with a goal as well. Furthermore, he received a starting nod in the 2024 - 2025 Scottish Cup and made a substitute appearance.
