Meschak Elia (age 28) was born on 6 August 1997 and built his career in stages rather than in a rush. The DR Congo winger came through at home before moving into Swiss football with Young Boys, where his game settled properly. Early loan spells were part of that process, giving him regular minutes and a bit of shape after an uneven start.
At Young Boys he became a useful wide attacker rather than a passing project.
