Matteo Bignetti, born on the not too distant date of 6 May 2004, hails from Austria and, at the tender age of 21, minds the onions for Sturm Graz, standing sentinel in their goal. He clocks in at a rather towering 6ft 2in (1.9m) and tips the scales at a sturdy 11st 13lb (76kg). Ever the traditionalist, he dons the proudly and often maligned number 40 jersey.
His potential out on the pitch, according to Transfermarkt, is currently valued at around a respectable £341k. Not too shabby for a cove of his age.
In the summer haze of July 2020, Bignetti joined the hallowed ranks of Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga, Germany's top-tier football, cutting his teeth as a trainee. However, it seems he failed to fully take to the German soil, as by July 2023, he was off to the rolling hills of Austria, having transferred to Sturm Graz in the domestic Bundesliga. Ever since then, he's been doing a bang-up job, despite the odd hiccup.
His current season at Sturm Graz, 2025 - 2026, may not seem particularly stellar with only two first team appearances in league matches. On the surface, it might look a touch bleak. However, never one to back down, Bignetti managed to secure a start in the esteemed Europa League 2025 - 2026. It's a cheeky reminder that in football, as in life, things are rarely as they first appear.
