Marcelo Saracchi was born on 23 April 1998 in Uruguay, and he has had a diverse career that has seen him represent various clubs on three different continents. Primarily a left back, Saracchi is small but solid, standing at 5ft 7in (1.72m) and weighing in at 10st 5lb (66kg). Now 27 years old, he wears the number 36 jersey for Celtic and has seized the opportunity to showcase his talent on the global stage as a member of the Uruguay national team.
Currently, Saracchi’s market value sits at approximately £1.7m according to Transfermarkt.
Saracchi's first notable transfer was in August 2017 when he moved from Danubio in Uruguay's Primera División to Argentine club River Plate for a fee nearing £1.9m. Despite being a young export, he adjusted admirably, making 19 first-team appearances in his debut season.
His strong performances attracted attention from European clubs, and July 2018 saw Saracchi make the leap to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig for a hefty £12m. Over two seasons, he made a total of 13 first team appearances and contributed one goal.
In January 2020, Saracchi was loaned out to Turkish giants Galatasaray. His initial half-season loan was extended, and over two seasons he appeared 41 times and found the back of the net twice.
Upon the completion of his loan in mid-2021, Saracchi returned to Leipzig, but his stint was short-lived. In February 2022, he transferred to Levante in Spain's LaLiga. Over two seasons, he made 29 first team appearances.
In August 2023, another geographical leap was taken as Saracchi moved to Argentina's Boca Juniors for around £1.6m. He made 13 appearances in his lone season there, chipping in with one goal.
Saracchi joined Celtic on loan in August 2025 and has, so far, made a solid impression. He has appeared 13 times in the Scottish Premiership and scored a goal. Besides the league, Saracchi also plays in the League Cup, the Scottish Cup, as well as the Europa League for Celtic. For his country, Uruguay, he participates in the World Cup Qualifiers.
