Maik Nawrocki, a stalwart of Celtic's defence, was born on 7 February 2001 in Germany and is currently 23 years old. Standing at 6ft 2in (1.9m) tall and weighing 12st 3lb (78kg), Nawrocki brings physicality to his primary position as a central defender. At Celtic, he dons the number 17 jersey. His market value stands at around £2.5m, a figure courtesy of Transfermarkt. As it stands, his contract is set to run until 31 May 2028.
Before joining the hoops, Nawrocki's career commenced at SV Werder Bremen II in the Regionalliga Nord in Germany where he started as a trainee in July 2016. His first taste of different pastures came with a loan stint at Warta Poznań in the I Liga in Poland in February 2021, impressively netting a goal and making three first-team appearances in his inaugural season.
By July 2021, Nawrocki moved on loan to Legia Warsaw in the Ekstraklasa in Poland. His first season saw him score once across 19 first-team appearances, a tally he would eclipse the following season (2022-2023) scoring four times in 25 appearances. The following month, his performances earned him a permanent move to Legia Warsaw for a £1.2m transfer fee.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Nawrocki was then snapped up by Celtic in July 2023 for a fee of around £4.3m. In his first season wearing the green and white hoops (2023-2024), he made a respectable ten first-team appearances in league matches. Although the current season (2024-2025) is yet to see Nawrocki feature in a league match, he has tasted domestic cup action, appearing in the League Cup and the Scottish Cup.
From a promising start in German's lower leagues to his current home in Scotland's top tier, Nawrocki's journey has been one of steady progress. Celtic fans will no doubt be eager to see this continue as the defender grows into his role at Celtic Park.
