Luke Amos, an unwitting subject of an ageing proces, is presently 27 years old. This English-born boyo, a robust 5ft 10in (1.79m) and weighing a not-insubstantial 11st 4lbs (72kg), enjoys the rather mundane hobby of playing midfield for Hibernian. One can often spot him sporting the number 14 jersey through the Scottish fog.
Our Mr Amos kicked off his (so far) illustrious career as a trainee in Tottenham Hotspur, back in July 2013. There wasn't much record of him causing ripples in the season 2018-2019, having appeared only once in first team league matches. Perhaps he preferred to keep a low profile.
But in what I fancy was an attempt to liven things up, he found himself transferred to Southend United in January 2017 on the English National League's radar. Managed to strut around the pitch thrice for this charming team before he was called back by his mum, I mean, Tottenham.
Apparently, a creature of habit, our Luke played another uneventful gig at Tottenham, appearing just once in the 2018-2019 league matches, before borrowing another horse in January 2018 to gallop to Stevenage on loan, going full circle and returning to Tottenham Hotspur in June 2018.
In July 2019, Luke thought it would be fun to engage his services at Queens Park Rangers on loan. One can't help but admire his determination to run around in circles, as the trend showed even here. At Queens Park Rangers, Luke seemed to finally find his groove, having made more than two dozen appearances across the 2019-2023 seasons and even popping the balloon — what others like to call scoring — eight times.
August 2020, the boy actually decided to throw in his lot properly with Queens Park Rangers, transferring from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee that was whispered to be so scandalous they couldn't bring themselves to disclose it. He then ran around a bit more for QPR, racking up appearances and goals on the pitch until June 2023.
Fast forward to January 2024 and — brace yourselves, folks — he decided to grace us Scots with his presence, enlisting with Hibernian. Since then, he's made about eight appearances, one in the current 2024-2025 season. When it comes to silverware, he's been totting up appearances in the League Cup and Scottish Cup for Hibernian, to his credit.
And so we wait, ever so patiently, with this thrilling saga of Luke Amos. Will he ever settle in a team? Will he ever score another goal? Shall we hold our breath or just order another pint? The suspense is almost too much.
