Liam Scales, born in the Republic of Ireland on 8 August 1998, is a sterling defender who takes the lead at the heart of Celtic's backline. Standing at 6ft 2in and crossing the scales at 13st 5lb, his physical presence on the pitch is undeniable. He dons the number 5 jersey with pride. His national loyalty lies with the Republic of Ireland, for whom he's had the honour of representing.
Hailed from UCD, a First Division club in his homeland, the lad officially kicked off his professional journey in January 2017 for an undisclosed fee. After three years, he moved up to Shamrock Rovers in the Premier Division in January 2020. Quite the catch this lad, Celtic roped him in from Shamrock Rovers in August 2021, also for an undisclosed fee. 2022 saw him temporarily exit Celtic, heading north to Aberdeen on loan. June 2023 marked his return to Celtic after his loan tenure came to a close.
His initial stint at UCD in 2019 revealed a promising player - 30 appearances and a goal to his name. Shamrock Rovers benefited from Scales' growing expertise in 2020 and 2021, with him making 39 appearances and adding two more goals to his tally.
His tenure at Celtic started off with a bang in the 2021-22 season with a goal from his 5 appearances. The next season, he was plying his trade at Aberdeen, bagging himself a goal from 31 outings.
In the 2023-24 season after his return to Celtic, Scales was consistent in his league appearances, earning 34 caps and netting the ball once. The current 2024-25 season has just begun and he's already flushed the net once in his only appearance so far.
