In the world of Scottish football, there are few names that can stir up as much controversy as that of Liam Kelly. Born in our fair nation on the 23rd of January 1996, which would make him 29 years of age for those of you struggling with the maths, he is currently lending his goalkeeping talents to Rangers, the other end of Glasgow. The lad stands at a rather impressive 6ft 2in, or 1.89m for anyone loyal to Napoleon, and tips the scales at 12st 12lb, or roughly 82kg for those who prefer kilos to stones.
He originally donned the blue jersey of Rangers as a fresh-faced talent back in 2004 before bouncing around on loan to teams like East Fife and Livingston, racking up 16 and 70 appearances respectively. In the 2024-2025 season, he's managed to squeeze back into the Rangers' first team, making a grand total of six appearances as their number 31. After paying his dues at East Fife and Livingston, he then made a confusingly cyclical journey back to Rangers again.
Not content to stay put, the lad then made his way to Queens Park Rangers in England. Perhaps he just has a thing for teams with "Rangers" in their name. His stint there was punctuated by a loan move to Motherwell, and then a permanent move in 2021. One has to wonder if the lad simply enjoys moving; perhaps it's the thrill of a new dressing room, or maybe he just dislikes unpacking. Either way, after establishing himself well enough at Motherwell with 132 appearances, he decided to return yet again to Rangers in 2024, where he sits today, presumably chuckling at his own confusing club history.
During his current stint with Rangers, he's had the grand pleasure of participating in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 with one start, another distinguishing accomplishment to add to his perplexing career. His representation of the Scotland national team is a side note in his career, much like an appetiser before the main course - the Rangers saga.
