Stand to attention, folks. I present to you, the virtually omnipresent Lewis Mayo, born 19 March 2000, presumably somewhere in Scotland given that's where he hails from. He's made quite the round trip of our dear country, spending more time on the transfer rosta than any player could surely relish. Currently, he's the central stalwart for Kilmarnock, a defender graced with the stature of a tree standing 6ft 3in (or 1.91m for those baffled by imperial numbers). He weighs in at a sturdy 12st 12lb (or 82kg, if you prefer). With the number 5 stitched into his shirt, he's become a fixture on the Kilmarnock pitch, when he's not being loaned out, that is.
Blessed with an unbridled enthusiasm for Scottish clubs, Mayo made his inaugural break with Rangers in July 2016 as a fresh-faced trainee. But alas, he couldn't resist the allure of a loan to Partick Thistle come January 2020. From there, it was a whirlwind romance with Dunfermline Athletic in September of the same year, only to be courted once more by Partick Thistle not a year later in July 2021.
His giddy carousel ride through the leagues finally landed him a stint with Kilmarnock in July 2022, another loan for our bright-eyed wanderer. He managed to clock up an admirable 34 first-team appearances during his debut season, following it up with another 36 and a rare goal in the next. Fast-forward to the current season, and he's managed 22 so far, in between loaning out his services like a man with no fixed abode.
To double down on the madness, Rangers, appearing to have lost his permanent address, finally transferred him to Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee in July 2023. Mayo then put in another strong performance, with 34 appearances in his debut season, followed by 36 with a single goal for good measure the following year. Currently, he's already on 22 for this season.
Mr. Mayo has also been flaunting his talents in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 with a single substitute appearance, in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 with a solitary start, and in the Europa and Conference League Qualifiers 2024 - 2025 where he saw action four times, no doubt praying it wasn't another loan deal.
Perhaps he'll find permanency at Kilmarnock, or perhaps he'll seek out a new temporary home. Only time, and indeed the repeated sense of déjà vu from his agent's phone calls, will tell.
