Let's all have a rapturous round of applause for Leon King, born on that fateful day of 14 January 2004 right here in our wee corner of the globe, Scotland. Aged, as of desperately flicking through my calendar to tally it up, 21 years of age, he's long since traded sticky tuck in the school canteen for the tub-thumping world of football.
He's not just any old footballer mind, no-no, King is rather fond of standing firmly at the back as a central defender for, and I say this with not an ounce more enthusiasm than necessary, Rangers. Standing tall at an imperial measurement of 6ft 2in (or 1.88m for those of you who can't resist a metric system), and tipping the scales at 11st 9lb (74kg for the same lot who had their Google calculator at the ready for the height conversion).
The lad, it appears, dons the not-so-fabled number 38 jersey, simply to add a wee bit of charm to this wonderfully enthralling tale.
Carrying on the narrative, and sparing not a single thrilling detail, since his debut for the Rangers in the exhilaratingly titled season 2020 - 2021, King could write home about making precisely one appearance. The next season, that being 2021 - 2022, saw him back on the pitch for another awe-inspiring four games. From there, it just escalated, like a waterslide with a cheese grater finish, to a rousing 15 games for the 2022 - 2023 campaign. The following season yielded a fabulous five appearances. As for the current affairs of season 2024 - 2025, well, he's graced with his presence on two occasions, and that very fact alone is worthy of parades and public speeches.
Then there was the Scottish Cup for the 2024 - 2025, where he ran around for a bit as a substitute for Rangers. Oh, I almost forgot, he also put in a star-studded performance in the Europa League 2024 - 2025, where he not only started, but also was a substitute. And isn't that a story for the grandkids.
