Leon King, the young Scottish chancer born on the rather frosty morning of January 14, 2004, currently graces the football field as a central defender for Rangers. Standing at an unmissable 6ft 2in (1.88m), and weighing in at a reasonable, if not entirely remarkable, 11st 9lb (74kg), you could say he cuts quite the imposing figure with his number 38 jersey boldly emblazoned across his back. But, this lad's journey to Rangers wasn't as dramatic as some might make it out to be.
A trainee no more, young King stepped onto the Premiership pitch in July 2018, donning his Rangers jersey with all the nervousness and trepidation that comes with age and inexperience. Stat sheets indicate a mildly interesting first season (and I use the term 'interesting' loosely here) in 2020 - 2021, wherein King managed to notch up one whole first-team appearance. Startling, isn't it? The lad got a tad more active in the 2021 - 2022 season, with four first team appearances to his credit. But he really hit his stride in the 2022 - 2023 season, making a pretty decent total of 15 league appearances.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the Law of Diminishing Returns had it in for him, as the subsequent 2023 - 2024 and 2024 - 2025 seasons saw a less-than-stellar 5 and 2 league appearances, respectively. And don't even get me started on the current 2025 - 2026 season wherein young King has made no league appearances, yet. That bench sure does look comfortable, doesn't it, Leon?
The lad did, nonetheless, attract some interest from Queen's Park. Securing a loan move to Queen's Park in the Championship in Scotland in February 2025, our man enjoyed a short stint under a presumably different bench, making a total of nine appearances. Must have been an enlightening experience, that. The lad went right back to the Rangers' fold in June 2025, just in time for another stint of bench-warming and presumably, lounging, in his debut season at Rangers.
His stints on the pitch for Rangers did see him make a brief cameo in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025, where he had one appearance as a substitute. A rollercoaster of a career, right there folks. Or should I say, a comfortable couch ride.
