Leon Goretzka, born on 6 February 1995 (age 31), is a Germany midfielder whose career is now overwhelmingly tied to Bayern Munich. A centre midfielder wearing number eight, he has given Bayern a steady physical presence and a level of attacking output that is a little above the usual for the role.
Across nine league seasons with Bayern, Goretzka has made 211 league appearances and scored 40 league goals. His most productive Bundesliga campaign came in 2018–19, when he scored eight times in 30 appearances, an early sign of the penalty-box timing that has remained a useful part of his game.
He remains involved rather than merely retained. In 2025–26, he has made 31 Bundesliga appearances and scored five goals, with 42 appearances and five goals for Bayern in all competitions, including 10 in the Champions League and one in the DFL-Supercup. He has also featured for Germany during the season, with one World Cup appearance and six European World Cup qualifying appearances.
His market value is around £18.5m, according to Transfermarkt. At this stage, the shape of his career is clear enough: a long-serving Bayern midfielder, still contributing regularly, with a better scoring record than many players asked to do similar work.
