Leighton Clarkson, born on the 19th of October, 2001, is a seasoned English midfielder known for his dynamism in the centre of the field. Currently Scotland-bound and plying his trade with Aberdeen, he is a solid performer, standing at a height of 5-foot-8-inches (approximately 1.75 meters) and weighing around 10-stone-9-pounds (about 68 kilograms). Despite his rather modest stature, his performances on the pitch are anything but, as evidenced by his steady hold on the coveted number 10 jersey.
As identified by Transfermarkt, Clarkson's market value hovers around the £1m mark. Meanwhile, his journey with the Dons is contracted to run until the summer of 2027, specifically until the 31st of May.
Clarkson cut his teeth in football with the English Premier League giants, Liverpool, joining their youth setup in July 2016. Fast forward to August 2021, and he was already turning heads at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, having joined them on a loan deal from the Reds. He made a respectable total of seven appearances in his debut season.
Consistently increasing his footprint on the British footballing scene, he ventured north and loaned to Aberdeen for the 2022-2023 season where he definitely left a mark. Across 34 appearances, he netted five goals. Not content with a loan spell, Clarkson made his move to Aberdeen permanent in the summer of 2023 for an undisclosed fee, avoiding the ruckus of the Premier League for the challenges of the Scottish Premiership.
Clarkson's grit and determination were clearly visible in the 36 appearances he made during the 2023-2024 season, as well as in his contribution of three goals. The 2024-2025 season at Aberdeen saw Clarkson striking a similar chord, with four goals in 29 appearances to his name so far.
Additionally, he has been putting in prominent shifts for his team in the League Cup 2024-2025 season, with three goals in just five starts and one appearance off the bench. His versatility and hard work have also shone through in the Scottish Cup and the Conference League of the 2023-2024 season, where he has had his fair share of starts and substitute appearances.
