Kristoffer Ajer, born on 17 April 1998 in Norway, is a defender known for his primary position as a central defender for Brentford. Standing impressively tall at 6ft 5in (1.96m) and sporting a sturdy frame of 13st 3lb (84kg), Ajer cuts a notable figure on the field with his number 20 jersey. Alongside his club commitments, Ajer also represents his birth nation in the Norway national team.
As per Transfermarkt, his current market value hovers around £16m, reflecting his contribution to the sport. His contract with Brentford is set to expire on 30 June 2028, just short of 7 years left to run from the present day.
Ajer embarked on his professional career with Start in the OBOS-ligaen in Norway as a trainee back in January 2014. From 2014 to 2016, he made multiple appearances for Start, with a particularly successful 2015 season where he scored eight goals from the 28 matches.
In July 2016, a chapter ended and another began as Ajer transferred from Start to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland, for a fee around £750k. This was the start to a notable tenure with four seasons at Celtic, during which Ajer made a total of 115 league appearances, and bagged five goals in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Alongside, a short loan phase emerged as he transferred from Celtic to Kilmarnock in January 2017, for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season.
Post his stint at Kilmarnock, where he made 16 league appearances, Ajer returned to Celtic in July 2017. In what appears a testimony to his maturity and growth as a player, he went on to consistently appear in league matches for the following four years.
July 2021 marked another pivotal point in Ajer's career as he transferred from Celtic to Brentford in the English Premier League, costing Brentford around £14m. Since then, Ajer has been steadfast with his play, having made several first team appearances and contributed with goals in the 2021-2024 seasons.
Besides club-level play, Ajer also contributed to the Norwegian international team in multiple events such as the World Cup Qualifiers Europe 2024 - 2026, Euro Qualifiers 2022 - 2024 and the Nations League 2024 - 2025. He also took part in the 2024 - 2025 League Cup for Brentford.
