Capped Latvian international Kristers Tobers, born 13th December 2000 (now aged 24), is a central defender currently putting in deft displays for Aberdeen, where his towering 6ft 2in (1.9m) stature and solid build - he hits the scales at 13st 3lb (84kg) - make him a formidable presence. He sports the number 24 jersey, a nod to his December birth date.
As of recent data, Tobers has an estimated market value of around £1m (according to Transfermarkt), with his contract at Aberdeen running for a further three years and two months, taking him up until the end of June 2028.
Born and bred in Latvia, Tobers cut his footballing teeth with Liepāja in his home nation's premier league, the Virslīga. However, seeking a new challenge and a chance to expand his horizons, in January 2020 he transferred on loan to Lechia Gdansk in the top-tier Polish Ekstraklasa. Impressing in his new setting, Tobers made ten first team appearances in that maiden season.
By July of the same year, Gdansk decided to make the move permanent, transferring Tobers for an undisclosed fee. He rewarded their confidence, serving the club for three more successful seasons, racking up 17, 11, and finally a robust 27 appearances each season respectively.
Yet Tobers' talent wasn't to be contained to the Eastern European sphere for long. July 2023 saw him transferring to Switzerland's Super League, where he represented Grasshoppers. Again, his time was punctuated by strong appearances - 29 in his first season, ten in the next with the addition of a sublime goal.
The move to Britain finally occurred in January 2025. Aberdeen, in the Scottish Premiership, orchestrated a transfer for a fee of approximately £700k - a sum fitting Tobers' growing reputation. He would prove his worth instantly, with ten first team appearances under his belt already in his inaugural season.
It's not just at a club level Tobers has excelled though, his national allegiance spurring memorable moments too. Notably, during the Euro qualifiers 2022-2024 for Latvia, Tobers posted a goal from seven starts. He also participated fruitfully in the Scottish Cup 2024-2025 for Aberdeen, and the Nations League 2024-2025 for Latvia, with five starts and a substitute appearance.
