Kieran Tierney, born on 5 June 1997 (age 29) on the Isle of Man, is a Scotland international left-back whose career has been tied closely to Celtic. He became an important first-team player before his August 2019 move to Arsenal for around £25m, a fee that reflected both his standing at the club and the market Celtic rarely get to enjoy.
His first Celtic spell brought the substance. Tierney was direct, aggressive and reliable on the left, with enough quality going forward to make him more than a runner. Across his Celtic career he has won six Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups, which is a fair return for a player who carried serious responsibility at a young age.
The move to Arsenal took him into a different level of scrutiny, and he later returned to Celtic from the London club in July 2025. That return was not a ceremonial lap. In 2025-26 he produced his most productive league season, scoring six goals in 35 appearances, while wearing squad number 63 again.
In 2026-27, Tierney has made 14 Celtic appearances across all competitions, including two in the league, three in the Scottish Cup and nine in the Europa League. He has also been involved with Scotland, featuring in World Cup and European qualifying matches and scoring once in qualification. His market value is around £7m, according to Transfermarkt.
Tierney’s career has run from Celtic prospect to £25m Arsenal signing and back to Celtic as a senior player. The shape of it is simple enough: a left-back developed in Glasgow, tested in England, and returned with plenty still expected of him.
