Kieran Tierney, a bonafide Scot and a defender of rather notable skill, presently plies his trade as a full-back for Arsenal. Born on the 5th of June, 1997, much of his football life has blossomed in the green and beautiful Celtic landscapes of Scotland. At the ripe age of 27, Tierney finds himself a perfect blend of experience and zest, capable of manning the left flank on the field with Adonis-like strength. Weighing in at 11st 13lb (76kg), Tierney has clearly never been shy of a few weights sessions, and at a height of 5ft 10in (1.78m), he's able to hold his own in physical battles.
Of course, in our game, there's more to a player than his physique. According to the wise heads over at Transfermarkt, Tierney, donning jersey number 3, is currently valued at a cool £8.5m. It's also worth mentioning that his contract is due to run its course on the 30th of June, 2025, meaning he’ll be donning the Arsenal red (or possibly someone else's colours) for at least the next few months.
Indeed, it seems like only yesterday that Tierney was marshalling Scottish Premiership side, Celtic, during his debut season in 2014/15. It was perhaps not the most extraordinary of starts, with just two first team appearances under his belt, but the lad was getting warmed up. He rose to prominence in the following seasons, notably playing 23 times in 2015/16, and scoring a solitary goal. The next season mirrored the last, with another 24 appearances and one goal. By the time 2017/18 season rolled around, Tierney had become an irreplaceable part of the Celtic squad, contributing three goals in 32 appearances. His final season with the green-and-white in 2018/19, saw him making 21 league appearances.
Tierney's Scottish journey, however, came to an end in August 2019 after a £25m transfer to Arsenal. His tenure with the English club began on a somewhat tumultuous note, with injuries restricting him to only 15 league appearances in his debut season. Yet, as the seasons went by, Tierney continued to surge forward, both literally and metaphorically. His stint at Arsenal has seen him play nearly a hundred times, scoring a respectable three goals.
With the unpredictable world of football ever churning, Tierney found himself switching the cool climes of England for the sunny beaches of Spain in August 2023, moving to Real Sociedad on a season-long loan. In his solitary season as a Real Sociedad player, Tierney stamped his mark with 20 appearances in the prestigious La Liga. However, like a prodigal son, Kieran returned home to Arsenal after the 2023/24 season.
Apart from his impressive club career, Tierney has also made his name internationally representing Scotland in two successive Euro tournaments in 2024 and 2022-24 qualifiers, seizing five starts overall. He also marked his presence in the Nations League 2024/25, and for Arsenal in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League.
