Kieran Tierney, born on 5 June 1997 in Scotland, is a steadfast defender primarily known for his time playing as a left back for Celtic. He is a substantial 1.78m (5ft 10in) in height and weighs in at a sturdy 76kg (11st 13lb). His skills on the pitch coupled with his national pride has led to Tierney representing his home country of Scotland’s national team.
According to Transfermarkt, Tierney's current market value equates to approximately £8.5m. Though his Celtic contract is nearing expiration with only two months left, set to expire on 30 June 2025.
Reflecting on Tierney's rich career, his initial involvement in professional football began in July 2005 when he joined Celtic's Premiership team in Scotland as a trainee. His debut season during 2014-2015 saw him make two appearances for Celtic's first team in league matches. The 2015-2016 season saw a leap in involvement with 23 first team appearances and his first recorded goal. His subsequent involvement in the seasons 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 at Celtic saw a total of 56 first team appearances and four goals. The 2018-2019 season saw Tierney involved in 21 first team league matches. However, in the current 2024-2025 season, Tierney has not been featured in any first-team matches.
His robust record at Celtic did not go unnoticed. In August 2019, a lucrative opportunity presented itself when Tierney transferred to Arsenal's Premier League in England for a fee of around £25m.
While at Arsenal, between the seasons of 2019-2020 and 2022-2023, Tierney made 91 first team appearances and scored three goals in league matches. The current 2024-2025 season, however, has seen a reduced involvement with just 13 first team appearances and one goal to his name.
A loan in August 2023 saw Tierney wear the kit of Real Sociedad in Spain's LaLiga where he made 20 first team appearances during the 2023 - 2024 season, before ultimately returning to Arsenal in the Premier League.
The lad's prowess has extended to an international scale, demonstrated by his participation in Euro 2024 for Scotland with two starts, Euro Qualifiers 2022 - 2024 with five starts, and Nations League 2024 - 2025 with two substitute appearances.
There is no doubt that Tierney's career has been as tumultuous as it has been rewarding. From his humble beginnings on Celtic's training grounds to navigating the high-stakes worlds of English and Spanish premier leagues, Tierney has made a name for himself on both a national and international scale.
