Kelechi Iheanacho, born on 3 October 1996 in Nigeria, is a forward currently turning out for the Bhoys. At 6ft tall (1.85m) and weighing in at a sturdy 12st 12lb (82kg), he cuts an imposing figure leading the line with the number 17 on his back. Iheanacho has adroitly navigated the rough and tumble of British football, proving his mettle not only on Celtic's turf but also on the international stage for Nigeria. His market value, estimated to be approximately £2.5m according to Transfermarkt, bears testament to his skill.
In January 2014, Iheanacho navigated his way northwards, from Nigeria to Manchester City, marking his debut in British football. His tenure at the English Premier League club was highlighted by his debut season (2015/16) where he made 26 first team appearances and found the net eight times. However, by the following season, his appearances had decreased to 20 and his goal tally had halved.
In August 2017, Iheanacho swapped sky blue for royal blue, moving to Leicester City for an estimated £25m. Overall, his stint with the Foxes saw him score 30 league goals across his 173 first-team appearances in six seasons.
In July 2024, the Nigerian international embarked on a sojourn to sunny Spain, joining Sevilla. His time there was, unfortunately, rather uneventful with only nine first team appearances in league matches. He then spent a few months on loan at Middlesbrough before returning to Sevilla. However, his spell in Spain was short-lived.
Fast forward to September 2025; Iheanacho decided to swap the splendour of Seville for the splendour of Glasgow, joining Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. His contribution to the Hoops thus far has been modest but noteworthy; within his first season, he has already made nine first team appearances and bagged three goals.
In addition to making his mark on domestic matters, the Nigerian has also been making waves in cup competitions and upon the international stage. Whilst representing Celtic, Iheanacho has demonstrated his tenacity in the League Cup and the Scottish Cup, as well as in the Europa League, where his goal tally keeps increasing steadily. His performances for Nigeria in the World Cup Qualifiers have been just as commendable, adding yet another goal to his tally.
