Jonah Ayunga, born on the 24th of May, 1997, is an English-born footballer currently prolific in his position as a forward for St Mirren, primarily dominating the right-wing. At 27 years of age, he stands tall at 6 feet (1.85m) and weighs 12st 3lb (78kg). Number 7 is his jersey of choice on the football pitch.
In the bygone days of January 2017, Ayunga was first observed showcasing his potential as he moved on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, a Premier League club in England, to Sligo Rovers, stationed in the Premier Division of The Republic of Ireland. In his fledging season, 2017, he struck the back of the net four times in 21 appearances for Sligo Rovers.
Thereafter in July 2017, Ayunga took a career detour as he was transferred on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion to Galway United. His stay at Galway United was characterized by two appearances in league matches in the 2017 season.
When the calendar marked July 2018, Ayunga seized the opportunity for a permanent transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to Sutton United, a club clearly not as highly ranked but still having a stronghold in the National League in England.
Later, November 2018 observed him making moves from Sutton United to Havant & Waterlooville, a club associated with the National League South in England. The constraints of the transfer fee remained undisclosed. In an unexpected turn of events, Ayunga made his way back to Sutton United from Havant & Waterlooville in December 2018. The undisclosed fee saved the clubs from any unwarranted attention.
Ayunga’s departure from Sutton United was inevitable as he sealed his move back to Havant & Waterlooville in July 2019. 2020 was also witness to Ayunga's transfer from Havant & Waterlooville to Bristol Rovers. This insightful move to a League One team in England was abruptly cut short with another transfer to Morecambe, a League Two team in England, in July 2021.
Finally, the cycle of transfers came to a halt (at least for now), as Ayunga ascended to the Premiership in Scotland with St Mirren. His journey here began in July 2022, and he has proven his worth across three seasons. Starting from the 2022-2023 season, he made 19 first-team appearances and scored three goals. In the 2023-2024 season, he contributed two goals in 17 appearances. The current season of 2024-2025 already records his name with 16 first-team appearances, punctuated with one goal. His contribution extended to the League Cup 2024-2025 and Conference League Qualifiers 2024-2025, making one and four appearances respectively for St Mirren.
His football journey, articulated through distinct clubs and leagues, unequivocally narrates a narrative of resilience and unwavering strength.
