A versatile forward, Johnny Crum learned his football in the junior ranks with Ashfield and Maryhill Hibs, and his early potential earned him a junior international cap before he joined Celtic in February 1932. He spent ten successful years at Parkhead, finding a useful forward combination with Malcolm Macdonald and Johnny Divers, and was in the team which won the Scottish League in 1935/36 and 1937/38.
