Joey Dawson, born on 30 May 2003 and thereby qualifying as the tender age of 21, hails originally from the land of our southern neighbours, England. This young man, however, has chosen to earn his living playing football north of the border, as a forward for the Celtic B team, with a primary position as a striker.
His journey to Scotland began approximately a decade ago, in the dry heat of July 2011. At this time, Dawson was making his first strides into professional football, joining Scunthorpe United in the National League North of England as a trainee. A solid basis for any player wishing to carve out a career in the beautiful game.
A decade later, in July 2021, Dawson made a significant leap, transferring from Scunthorpe United to the hallowed grounds of Celtic in the Premiership of Scotland. The deal was completed for what remains an undisclosed fee, a common practice in the often-cryptic world of football transfers.
During his debut season within Scotland, specifically the 2021-2022 season, Dawson was allowed to dip his toes into first-team waters. Despite his status as a newcomer to the fiery theatres of Scottish football, Dawson managed to make one first-team appearance in league matches. A modest start, some would say, but it is a beginning nonetheless. Recognising this early opportunity within a team such as Celtic illuminates a spark of promise for young Dawson.
