Joël Monteiro, born on 5 August 1999 (age 27), is a Swiss left winger now with Lecce. A commanding 6ft 3in (1.91m), he brings unusual size to a wide role, and is valued at around £6m by Transfermarkt.
His early loan football helped move him on from development promise, but the serious body of work came at Young Boys. Across six seasons there, Monteiro made 132 league appearances and scored 28 league goals, a return that gives the spell proper substance rather than just longevity.
The high point of that Young Boys run came in 2023-24, when he scored 12 times in 32 league appearances. He was still contributing at the start of 2026-27, with three goals in five league games, before moving on to Lecce.
At Lecce, Monteiro has made seven league appearances and scored once. His career to this point is mainly a Young Boys story, with the Italian move now the next test rather than the main chapter.
