Joe Chalmers, born on 3 January 1994 in Scotland, is a 31-year-old midfielder who primarily plays as a central defensive midfielder for Dunfermline Athletic. Standing at 5ft 10in (1.78m) and weighing 11st 6lb (73kg), Chalmers is a stalwart in the number 8 jersey.
Chalmers started his career in July 2011 as a trainee at the renowned Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. His debut season 2012 - 2013 at Celtic was relatively uneventful, with the fledgeling midfielder making only two first team appearances in league matches.
In an attempt to gain more playing time, Chalmers was transferred on loan to Falkirk, a Championship team in Scotland, in January 2014. During the rest of the season 2013 - 2014, he participated in 11 league matches for Falkirk.
Upon completion of his loan, Chalmers returned to Celtic in July 2014. However, his future at the club was not to be, and after another lacklustre season which saw him take to the field in a Celtic jersey for only two league matches, he transferred to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership in July 2015.
During his time at Motherwell, in the seasons 2015 - 2016 and 2016 - 2017, Chalmers seemed more at home, making 25 first team appearances in the league matches.
Chalmers again transferred in July 2017, this time to Inverness CT, a team in Scotland's League One. In season 2017 - 2018, he made a significant 21 first team appearances and opened his career goal tally, netting one goal in league matches.
Chalmers' career saw another switch in July 2019 as he moved from Inverness CT to Ross County in the Scottish Premiership. He put on a strong display in the season 2019 - 2020, making 14 first team appearances and scoring three goals in the process.
Following his stint at Ross County, Chalmers went on to join Ayr United in Scotland's Championship in September 2020 for an undisclosed fee. He again transferred in January 2022 for another undisclosed fee, this time to Dunfermline Athletic in the Championship.
Playing for Dunfermline Athletic, Chalmers' career seems to have hit its stride. From the season 2022 - 2023 onwards, he has made a total of 74 first team appearances in league matches. In addition to his league play, he has also featured in the League Cup 2024 - 2025 with two starts and two appearances as a substitute, in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 with two starts, and in the Challenge Cup 2024 - 2025 with one start.
