Born on the 13th of February 2002 (23), João Marques Vieira Freitas, more commonly referred to as João Marques, is a football forward from Portugal who normally operates as a left-winger for SC Braga. He stands approximately 5ft 10in tall (1.79m) and weighs around 11st 9lb (74kg). You will usually see Marques donning the number 33 jersey on the pitch.
In addition to his club responsibilities, Marques is an international player, representing Portugal at the Under 21 level. Currently, his market value is estimated to be just over £2.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Marques’ career took a significant step forward in July 2021 when he signed for the Liga Portugal team, Estoril. His first season (2022-2023) was one of promise, featuring 11 first-team league appearances. In the following season, Marques further added to his reputation with a solid performance record of 32 first-team appearances and netting five goals.
In July 2024, Marques secured a move from Estoril to fellow Liga Portugal side, SC Braga, for a deal around £3m. His inaugural season at Braga (2024-2025) was marked by a comparatively modest three first-team league appearances. In January 2025, amidst his stint at SC Braga, Marques was loaned out to Gil Vicente, where he tallied an additional 11 first team appearances. His loan period ended in June 2025 when he returned to SC Braga.
Despite limited appearances for SC Braga, Marques had the opportunity to participate in international tournaments. He was a part of the Portugal U21 squad that competed in the UEFA U21 Qualifiers 2025, where he made three substitute appearances.
