Jhon Durán was born in Colombia on 13 December 2003, making him 21 years old at time of writing. He primarily fills the forward position as a striker for Aston Villa. Standing tall at 1.87m (6ft 1in) and with a weight of 73kg (11st 6lb), he wears the number 9 jersey. Beyond his club commitment, Durán has also adorned the colours of the Colombia national team.
According to Transfermarkt, Durán's current market value is around £35.5m. His contract with Aston Villa, which remains active for another 5 years and 5 months, is set to expire on 30 June 2030.
In January 2019, Durán entered the professional football scene with Envigado in the Colombian Primera A. His debut season saw him make nine first team appearances, scoring one goal in the process. The following year, his league game appearance increased to thirteen, repeating his goal tally from the previous year of one. By his third season at Envigado in 2021, Durán had become more prolific, scoring seven goals in twenty-three appearances.
Riding on his growing reputation, Durán transferred to Chicago Fire in the USA's MLS in January 2022, a move which is reported to have cost around £1.6m. Durán's impact was immediate, notching eight goals in twenty-seven appearances for the Fire in his debut season.
Durán's performance clearly caught the attention of Aston Villa, who, in January 2023, brought the Colombian striker to the Premier League for a fee of about £18m. Durán had a relatively subdued beginning at Villa Park, making twelve appearances without finding the net in the 2022-2023 season. His second season in claret and blue jerseys, however, saw an improvement with Durán scoring five goals in twenty-three appearances. His current season, 2024-2025, has been the most productive so far with Durán bagging seven goals in twenty appearances.
Looking beyond his league performances, Durán has also left his mark in various cup competitions. These include the 2024-2025 League Cup wherein he found the net twice in two starts for Villa. His international duties for Colombia saw him score one goal in as many starts (with six substitute appearances) in the 2024-2026 World Cup Qualifiers South America. He also had a solitary substitute appearance in the 2024 Copa America. On the European stage, Durán scored twice, starting four games and coming off the bench six times in the 2023-2024 Conference League. His performance in the 2024-2025 Champions League was commendable as well, notching three goals in just one start and six substitution appearances for Villa.
