Jeremy Toljan, born on 8th August 1994 in Germany, is a seasoned defender currently playing his trade as a right back for Sassuolo. Standing at 5ft 11in (1.82m), and weighing 11st 13lb (76kg), Toljan, who carries on his back the number 23 jersey, made his mark in the world of football at a tender age.
Toljan's journey into the world of professional football began in July 2011 when he joined 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany's Bundesliga – the country's premier league. According to Transfermarkt, throughout his six-year tenure at Hoffenheim, from the 2013-2014 season to the 2017-2018 season, Toljan proved his value by regularly making first team appearances and even bagged a couple of goals during his time there.
In August 2017, Toljan transferred over to Borussia Dortmund, another top-class Bundesliga team, for a fee of about £4.5m. There, he continued to make consistent first-team appearances, affirming his reputation as a dependable right-back.
The defender made his way to Celtic, a team in the Scottish Premiership, on loan in January 2019. Although his time at Celtic was short, spanning only to the end of the 2018-2019 season, his ten first-team appearances certainly added to Celtic's rich history.
Toljan then moved on loan to Sassuolo, a club in Italy's Serie B, in July 2019. He made a strong impression there, resulting in him transferring permanently to the club in July 2021 for a fee of around £3.2m. His contribution to Sassuolo is undeniable as evident in his consistent appearances on the pitch, spanning from the 2019-2020 season to the current 2024-2025 season.
